Goldenrod: From Field to Jar

Silverbrook Manor Farm Club Members help harvest goldenrod from designated Silverbrook growing areas, then learn how it is identified, cut, sorted, bundled, and dried.

The hands-on portion include:

  • Comparing goldenrod at peak bloom, late bloom and seed stage

  • Harvesting only designated plants

  • Preparing bundles for drying

  • Removing leaves and flower heads

  • Filling jars with previously dried Silverbrook goldenrod

  • Labeling the crop with species, field and harvest date

  • Discussing future uses in botanical studies, natural dyeing, aromatic evaluation and product development

Freshly harvested goldenrod should not be sealed in jars—it will trap moisture and mold. Guests could take home their own fresh bundles to dry and jar at home.

FREE to Silverbrook Manor Farm Club Members.
